Smoke+Mirrors/Shadows+Fog, features 16 international artists whose works conjure deliberate illusions—“smoke and mirrors”—as well as naturally occurring deceptions—“shadows and fog.” Using a variety of materials including paint, mirrors, wire, paper, dust, wood and plastic these artists evoke ephemera such as shadow-play, light refraction, reflection, and smoke.  The choice of materials used to create these illusionistic artworks is significant because although high-tech digital effects or virtual-reality simulations might seem an obvious choice, this particular group of artists prefer decidedly tangible materials which showcase their craftmanship.  Perhaps in  response to the increasing prevalence of technology in art-making, the artists in Smoke+Mirrors/Shadows+Fog collectively forgo
